Have you always wanted to journal but feel overwhelmed
by the idea of beginning?
Already journaling but want to deepen your practice?
Journaling can actually be the most low-pressure writing you'll ever do,
and there are as many approaches to journaling as there are journal-keepers.

There is no "right" way to do it. No "supposed to." No "should."
You can do it your way, whenever you feel like it.

In this workshop, we'll use guided writing exercises
to try out various kinds of journaling, including documenting our lives,
venting, expressing gratitude, facing fears, clearing our minds,
exploring our thinking, and planting seeds for more structured writing projects.

We'll use the same journaling tools to explore childhood memories,
excavate buried dreams, and create wish lists and goals for the coming year.

You'll finish this workshop with a greater understanding
of different approaches to journaling and with greater confidence
to start or continue a journal practice that works for YOU.

This workshop will be in English, but you are welcome to do the exercises in whatever language you wish.

Feedback from past participants:

I loved the mix of input and writing exercises. Am certainly very inspired and am planning to write my first morning pages tomorrow morning.”

"I thought it was great, and I really enjoyed Lisa's teaching/moderation style.”

"It's really difficult for me to feel comfortable in these settings, but after about 30 minutes I adjusted thanks to Lisa's ability to create a great environment!"

"I really enjoyed the respect for privacy, keeping conversations to the writing exercises themselves and not the content written. The writing exercises were really great, and I really appreciated the gradual escalation to more "juicy" topics as well as the gradual increase in the writing time."

"Overall, this was a very productive workshop for me. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the prompts and the progression of the workshop. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the environment was. Lisa created such a safe space!"

“I’m very grateful for what I’ve learned. Lisa has a real gift to make people write and to get them out of the trodden paths.”

“Thank you for all the valuable stimuli. They will probably last me a lifetime!”

“A good mix of theory and writing practice! The workshop inspired me to finally get started with journaling.”

An avid journal-keeper, Lisa Yarger is also the author of the award-winning book,
Lovie: The Story of a Southern Midwife and an Unlikely Friendship
(University of North Carolina Press).
